About the House
Founded by Louis Vuitton in Paris in 1854 as a trunkmaker for Empress Eugénie, the house's flat-topped trunk (1858) and the monogram canvas (1896, designed by Georges Vuitton in tribute to his father) defined modern luggage. Marc Jacobs took creative direction in 1997 and built the ready-to-wear arm; Nicolas Ghesquière leads women's since 2013, Pharrell Williams men's since 2023. Owned by LVMH, the house is the group's largest revenue contributor and operates a strict no-discount policy on its core lines.
Markdown Pattern
Louis Vuitton does not discount handbags, small leather goods, luggage, fragrance, watches or jewellery — anywhere. The house operates no outlet network and authorises no third-party stockists. Ready-to-wear and shoes appear on sale only at LV boutiques during the private soldes period (January and July) with cuts capped around 30%. Any 'Louis Vuitton sale' on Yoox, Saks, Mytheresa or any third-party retailer is by definition not an LV bag — those sites do not carry the brand.
Authentication
Authentic monogram canvas has the LV logo symmetrical across every seam — both sides of a Speedy bag mirror perfectly. The date code stamp (a two-letter country code plus four digits) was discontinued in March 2021 in favour of microchip authentication; older bags from 2007-2021 have the stamp inside a hidden pocket. Hardware is solid brass with a consistent gold tone, never plated. Vachetta leather oxidises evenly to a honey patina; uneven or already-darkened vachetta on a 'new' bag is a tell.
Timing
There is no on-cycle sale moment for Louis Vuitton bags. Boutique soldes in January and July offer 30% off ready-to-wear and shoes only — selection is shallow and product moves in the first 48 hours. For bags, the only structural buying window is the secondary market, where pre-loved authenticated pieces from reputable platforms (Fashionphile, The RealReal) trade at 10-30% below retail on standard Speedy, Neverfull and Pochette Métis models.
Louis Vuitton controls pricing tightly across all channels and runs almost no public sales on icon silhouettes (Neverfull, Speedy, Alma). Verified markdowns at authorized multi-brand retailers are rare and concentrated on non-icon inventory — fashion-driven RTW, exotic-skin variants, runway pieces. The brand's resale floor on icon bags is unusually firm.
Archive Luxury monitors Louis Vuitton pricing across all 33 of our authorized retailers continuously. When verified discounts appear, every listing passes our three-gate verification pipeline: source authorization (no grey-market sellers), real price-history validation against a named source field on the retailer's product feed, and editorial review for category fit and urgency. Set a price alert below to be notified the moment a new verified Louis Vuitton deal goes live, including discount depth and matching size availability.
For Louis Vuitton specifically, the most reliable verified-discount channels are the major US department stores (Saks, Bergdorf, Neiman, Nordstrom) plus the contemporary-luxury platforms (Mytheresa, Net-a-Porter, SSENSE) — each runs predictable seasonal markdowns on previous-season inventory and operates at the authorized-retailer tier. International DDP retailers (Mytheresa US, THE OUTNET, YOOX, Cettire) absorb US import duties so the displayed USD price is what you actually pay. The narrow set of retailers Archive Luxury surfaces Louis Vuitton from is deliberately constrained to authorized and verified channels — we'd rather publish a smaller list of real deals than a larger list with inflated comparisons or customs surprises.
